Los Portales

Adding an authentic Mexican touch to Montgomery

There is no shortage of Mexican restaurants in the Greater Cincinnati area, from the quick, on-the-go burrito variety to the grab some friends and stay a while places. If you've got a craving for some south-of-the-border food, there's a place for you.

And Los Portales is the type of restaurant that makes you crave another visit.

The people behind Los Portales claim to have more than 15 years of restaurant experience. That knowledge has definitely served the restaurant well at its newer location in Montgomery (previously home to Phoenicia Mediterranean Bar and Grill). All you have to do is look around to see why.

While the view may be limited to the parking lot and passing traffic on Montgomery Road, the large patio is perfect for casual outdoor dining. Of course, if the outdoors isn't your thing, there's always the bar, which is ideal for sports fans with its HDTVs and numerous drink specials throughout the week. The colorful mix of paintings, pictures and amusement parklike hues adds a fun, festive nature to the restaurant.

Los Portales manager Rodrigo Nieto says his staff will do anything for customers; as attentive as the servers are and as fast as they get food to the table, the only fathomable complaint might be getting them to slow down so you can enjoy your chips and salsa. Be careful before you load up on the chips and salsa, though - you're going to need room for the rest of your meal.

Study the menu at Los Portales carefully before you order ... there is a lot to choose from. Need something for the kids? No problem - Los Portales has several options for the tween set. Fancy fajitas? Fine - but do you want them with Certified Angus Brand beef, shrimp, chicken or vegetables only ... or would just prefer to try the dish nachos style? And if you can't make up your mind about the fajitas, maybe you should just try one of the 26 combos.

Having so many choices makes Los Portales a great place for Mexican cuisine.
