"Location, location, location" - yes, it's a cliché, but not one without merit. It can mean the difference between a successful business and one that closes quickly.
The location of Indigo Casual Gourmet Café in Hyde Park, plus its great food and sweet outdoor patio, have kept the restaurant popular and often quite busy.
Indigo's patio area is about as perfect as you could ask for. While big umbrellas provide shade, the bricks and sizable ferns help offer a nice, pleasant vibe. And if you're into people-watching, owner Rae Jean Carroll says you'll have a ball at Indigo.
"It's an eclectic crowd," Carroll says. "... It's just a great mix."
"A great mix" is a good way to describe Indigo's internationally flavored menu, too. Want a grilled chicken focaccia wrap ($10.95-$12.95)? Done. Feeling like a taste of New Orleans? The Cajun cream pasta ($8.50 half, $15 whole) should work. Craving something Italian? The Sicilian stromboli ($9.99) is a meat lover's dream.
And don't worry, vegetarians - the portobello alouette ($12.95) is just one of several options that will keep you coming back for more.
Hours: Open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
